How OK RU?

How OK are you? As we experience increased numbers of local COVID-19 cases and endure a further lockdown, we recognise that many people in our school community are faced with various challenges. Managing working and schooling from home, experiencing possible set-backs and attending to usual responsibilities and commitments, can all create stress during these uncertain times.

Here are some practical tips from our Wellbeing team that may help with establishing calm in the home:

  • Keep the communication open – Talk about the effects of COVID-19 with children with honesty and support. This may help alleviate fear and confusion.
  • Limit TV news and social media – Reduce the time spent to listening to certain information only i.e. case numbers and restrictions.
  • Create a flexible but consistent daily routine – Try to maintain usual sleep, school/work time and an outside daily exercise regime, even keep packing lunches! This can help achieve daily tasks and may also assist children to feel more secure.
  • Spend one-on-one time with family members off devices – If possible set time aside with each child. Lockdown is also a chance to make better relationships with our children and teenagers.

We understand that every family situation is different and although we are all doing the best we can, at times our circumstances can become overwhelming. If you or family member are in need of support, please reach out to our Wellbeing team on 1300 002 225 or bewell@beaconhills.vic.edu.au
