A positive vision of the future

Our students don’t have to look too hard – whether it is through the news or social media – to experience a negative narrative about the future.

The future is a precious commodity that lies before all of us. But for our young people it is a long way ahead, beyond a horizon they cannot imagine, let alone see. However, we know that the future will always arrive and become our present.

The task we all face is setting a path that we desire for our futures. As parents and staff members at Beaconhills College, we are actively helping our students imagine their futures, then start working towards achieving them. It’s so important, as our young people become older, that we have those conversations; to direct them to thoughts and ideas about what the future might hold. The more conversations we have, the more we support their progressive thinking. The more they have a sense of their future plans, the more focused, determined and engaged they become.

From Year 10, our students start setting learning goals and making future plans. As a community, we must do everything we can to present a positive vision of their future world. There is so much for young people to look forward to, and we need to ensure they feel excited about their future. Let’s get excited for them.
