Young Archies portrait contest

Two Beaconhills students earned first prizes in their age categories in the Young Archies portrait contest held at Narre Warren’s Bunjil Place.

Shelby Holyoak (Year 11) and Sayul (Prep) placed first, with Peter Nguyen (Year 11) and Vidusha (Year 6) placing as runners-up. Other Beaconhills finalists were Erin Hicks (Year 11) and Mikayla (Year 8).

The Young Archies competition is part of the touring Archibald Prize, which invites budding artists between the ages of five and 18 to submit a portrait of someone who is special to them and plays a significant role in their life.

Sayul’s artwork was a colourful portrait of his two-year-old brother at Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium.

The students received their awards at a ceremony held on Tuesday 4 October at Bunjil Place. The exhibition runs until Friday 14 October.
