As a parent, if you have ever questioned the benefits of sending your child on school camp, then this podcast is for you.
‘Resilience: Why school camps matter’ is the latest podcast in Beaconhills College’s BeInTheKnow series and features guest speakers Stephen McGinley, Executive Principal, our Head of Experiential Education, Lahlan Groh, and alum Tahlia Ziino, who is now part of the Beacon Explorers team.
At Beaconhills College, camps and experiential learning programs are designed to help young people develop one of life’s most important skills: resilience. The value of these experiences is often realised long after the camp has ended. As Pakenham Campus student Ella, who recently returned from East Timor, reflected:
“This trip made me more resilient by realising I don’t need much to survive and be happy and to be grateful for everything. During the trip, we got to see different homes and schools and seeing how few possessions and limited access to water and electricity challenged my perspective on what I considered normal …despite these hardships, the children were always happy and grateful, so it allowed me to be more resilient to push through hard times.”
