Beaconhills College Year 5 students from both campuses were treated to a special performance by the highly sought-after Royal Australian Navy Band at the Tony Sheumack Centre for Performing Arts, Berwick Campus.
The band captivated the students by performing a series of songs spanning various genres, including arrangements from movies such as the Star Wars soundtrack.
During question time, many hands were raised as curious students asked questions like, “How hard is it to get into the band?” and “Who is the most famous person the Navy Band has played for?”
The band includes one of our very own College alumni and former teachers, Michelle Kosarch, who was proud to perform on stage at her former school.
The College’s Director of Performing Arts, Dr Chris McGillen, said the band is one of the busiest and most requested in the Service Bands network (Army, Navy, and Air Force), with a reputation for exceptional musicianship and service.
“I was so thrilled that, after submitting a request over a year ago – with slim hope of success – the band was able to perform and interact with our Year 5 students from both campuses,” Dr McGillen said.
“Words cannot express our gratitude to the Royal Australian Navy Band for coming out to our Berwick Campus and inspiring our students through their music and stories of service.”
