The importance of partnership between families and school
Learning communities have been around for centuries. The old proverb ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ talks to the shared responsibilities of the adult community to help educate our next generation.
As adults, we have always had a vested interest in this pursuit. We know that once we retire, we will need the next generation of builders, nurses, teachers and farmers taking on the tasks essential for society to continue to function.
Schools are unique organisations that bring together parents and staff invested in our singular pursuit of building future pathways for young people. Schools are focused on educating students, and parents are raising children. This partnership is critical in establishing a supportive and cohesive environment that young people can trust, and one which gives them the clarity they need to understand the expected standards.
No student has ever been motivated by low standards. High standards that are consistent and reinforced will only serve to lift them to achieve outcomes they may not have thought possible. This partnership that we share as staff and parents underpins our success, as a learning community, in our students reaching and, at times, even exceeding these standards.
The student pathway through school is rarely linear, with setbacks, times of challenge and – of course – times for success and achievement. Our students rarely progress without some form of misstep, indiscretion or a poor choice.
It is this part of the journey where formative educational moments occur which direct our students onto the better path that helps set them up for the future.
To all our families, thank you for all you do to contribute to a learning community where our students get to ponder and progress their futures.
