The Careers and Pathways Breakfast on Friday brought together students, parents and staff for an inspiring morning with alumni Thomas Randle and Courtney Field, who shared honest and uplifting reflections on their journeys from school into elite sport.
Thomas, now competing in the Repco Supercars Championship with Tickford Racing, spoke about his long‑standing passion for engineering and racing, recalling his VCE Top Designs award for an automatic dog feeder and the many parallels between school life and motorsport. He also shared his remarkable resilience after being diagnosed with testicular cancer at just 23, winning the Super2 title in 2020 between surgeries and chemotherapy.
Courtney, a junior world sprint champion, four‑time world silver medallist and holder of five junior Australian records, reflected on how her love of cycling began through the College’s HPV program. She described the determination to return to competition after a serious crash that left her needing surgery to remove pieces of wood embedded in her leg.
Hosted by Michael Perry – Sports Administrator (Pakenham Campus), the event had both speakers highlighting their highs and lows of balancing elite sport with study and the sacrifices required to pursue a dream and the importance of mindset when facing setbacks.
Their message to students was clear – pathways are rarely linear, but every opportunity at school can help shape your future direction.
