Northern Star Chess Tournament

Yesterday, Beaconhills College sent 43 students from Years 6-12 to participate in the Northern Star Open Zonal Chess Tournament at Pakenham Secondary College. The Berwick and Pakenham Campuses competed against six other teams from around Victoria, including teams from Brighton, Drouin and Seymour.

A total of 125 students played seven games each in a fierce competition which saw Pakenham Campus students finish 2nd and Berwick Campus finish 5th overall. Strong individual performance saw seven students awarded High Distinction Certificates, 11 students awarded Credit Certificates and six students awarded medals. Overall, nine students qualified for the Secondary Open State Final which will be played in October.
