The College proudly unveiled its first official Indigenous sport uniform at yesterday’s SEISA Indigenous Round.

The custom-designed football jumpers, worn by students from the Pakenham and Berwick campuses, feature artwork created for Beaconhills by Ky-ya Nicholson Ward, a proud Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung, Ngurai Illum Wurrung, Irish and German woman.

Inspired by the College’s Reconciliation captains and led by Head of Indigenous Initiatives Lynette George, the project was delivered as part of the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The annual SEISA Indigenous Round provides an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The event also brings together the Pakenham and Berwick campuses for a special match.

Lynette said the jumpers had been in development well before the Indigenous Round began three years ago, making it especially rewarding to see them become a reality.

“I’m very proud of the way our students embrace the significance of the Indigenous Round, showing respect during the Acknowledgement of Country and smoking ceremony, and the pride they have shown in wearing the new jumpers.” This year, the College was honoured to welcome Bunurong Elder Uncle Mark Brown and Wurundjeri and Dja Dja Wurrung woman Stacie Piper as our special guests.
