A passion for art is what drew Hong Kong student Lee Tsz Kiu (Mavis) to Beaconhills College and it looks set to keep her here.
Mavis, who graduated from the College in 2021, immersed herself in visual arts since she joined the College in Year 7 and produced some outstanding and award-winning work over the years.
She now hopes to study art and education at Monash University and return to Beaconhills as an art teacher.
Mavis speaks glowingly of the Pakenham Campus art department, saying the teaching staff were inspiring because they were all passionate about art themselves.
Her own abilities are not just limited to one subject – she recently collected a swag of subject awards for her Year 12 studies. Along with Studio Arts, she earned awards for Visual Communication Design, Japanese and English as an Additional Language. She also received the Jon Dracoulas Award, a special award given to students who show outstanding citizenship in the community and service with the College.
Mavis was Woods House Captain for 2021. She said despite the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2021, being House Captain was still a rewarding experience.
“Helping everyone out as a captain was one of the best accomplishments I have achieved this year,” she said.
