Thanks to ideal growing conditions and an early start to the 2024-2025 summer season, the Beaconhills College community gardens have produced an exceptional harvest, benefiting both the school and the wider community.
Under the leadership of David Cain and the property team, the gardens exceeded expectations, with over 758.5kg of fresh herbs and vegetables harvested between October 2024 and April 2025.
This year, the focus was on growing larger quantities of vegetables most commonly used, ensuring a consistent supply while minimising waste. Notable harvests included 123kg of tomatoes, 290.5kg of zucchini, 76kg of carrots, and 94.5kg of cucumbers.
Produce was shared across the school’s canteens and donated to organisations such as The Salvation Army Pakenham and Follow Bless Collective, extending the garden’s impact beyond the school grounds.
David Cain’s strategy of optimising garden operations has ensured a steady flow of fresh, nutritious produce for the College, while also supporting local initiatives. This project highlights the College’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, health and supporting those in need in our community.
