Relay For Life 2022

Beaconhills College hosted its own Relay For Life event today, with College and community members attending morning Remembrance Services at each campus. There were also coffee vans, dance parties at both Little Beacons Learning Centres, and student fundraising activities throughout the day. The College had raised more than $32,000 by the end of lunchtime today, which well exceeds the goal of $20,000.

One of the top participants in the fundraising efforts was Beaconhills parent Justin Catherine, who raised $1653 with the support of family and friends. Justin said that the Cancer Council event “means a lot to me and my family” and has helped his cousin, who is currently fighting ovarian cancer for the second time, by supplying her with wigs and scarves.

The College’s Head of Citizenship and Service, Sarah Dyce, said that despite the last-minute change of schedule due to the weather forecast, the event was very successful, and she thanked everyone who participated or attended the services.

“It is a testament to the generosity of our community that we have had such strong fundraising support for this important cause,” she said. “It means we can help more people who are fighting cancer as well as the vital research work of the Cancer Council.”
