Australian Education Awards finalist

Beaconhills College are proud to announce that Pakenham Campus Year 1 teacher, Markus Munday, is a finalist in the 2021 Australian Education Awards ‘Education Rising Star of the Year’ category.

Since joining our College in 2019, Markus has been a shining light for all around him. Described by his colleagues as, “An inspiring, enthusiastic teacher who brings out the best in everyone he meets” he is equally adored by his students who say that, “He is really funny and kind” and “Mr Munday is such a good teacher”.

In June 2020, Beaconhills parents and students overwhelmingly voted Markus as winner of the Casey Cardinia Outstanding Teacher Competition. He received the award from local state Member for Gembrook, Brad Battin.

The Australian Education Awards recognise the top-performing schools, principals, department heads and teachers for their outstanding achievements and transformative work that makes a profound difference to the lives of young people across Australia. The winners will be announced at a ceremony held on Darling Island on 27 August 2021.

When asked what this nomination means to him personally, Markus said “I feel extremely honoured to be recognised for doing something that I love every single day. I remember when I was a student at school all I ever wanted to be was a teacher. I had such kind, caring and dedicated teachers that made my school life so positive. I feel truly blessed to be able to pay this forward and be that person for my students. I am forever grateful for this nomination and the acknowledgement of what I do, being able to live my childhood dream and make a difference in the lives of others.”

Thank you to Markus for all that you do for your students and our College community, as one parent said “My only wish is that every child gets to have a ‘Mr Munday’ during their schooling years. He really is an extraordinary teacher.”
