Year 9 maths/science teacher Gemma Maini is one of only six female athletes chosen to represent Australia in her division of the World Cross Country Championships in China.
Ms Maini said she was “so excited” to learn that Athletics Australia had selected her to join the senior womens’ team for the 28 March championships, to be held in Guiyang.
Australia will send a total of 24 athletes to the championships, with a full quota of six athletes in every event on the timetable.
Ms Maini has been a runner all her life and spent five years in the USA on a track scholarship.
She is now busy training for the eight km race, getting up each morning at 6am to run before school. She will run up to 130 km each week as part of her preparation.
The College wishes her the best of luck in the competition.
