Strong results for Beaconhills in national numeracy and literacy testing.

I’m delighted to announce that our students performed very well in the annual NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) testing.

Results are now publicly available on the website www.myschool.edu.au

NAPLAN is just one measure of a school’s success, but it does give families a good snapshot of how students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are progressing in areas such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. It also allows us to compare our school with other schools across Australia in a similar social demographic.

I invite you to go on to the My School website and examine our figures, but in summary:

  • In 17 of the 20 measures, Beaconhills College performed ‘above’ or ‘substantially above’ similar schools in Australia
  • We improved in 11 of the 20 key measures in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 compared with the 2013 results
  • Our Year 3 numeracy results are the best recorded since 2008
  • In Year 9, for the first time, in all measures Beaconhills performed ‘above’ or ‘substantially above’ similar schools

While these results are undoubtedly worth celebrating and a testament to our programs, the dedication of our teaching staff and – of course – our students, NAPLAN does not give our whole picture of success. It does not assess wellbeing, a commitment to citizenship and service or our core values of respect, integrity and compassion.
At Beaconhills, our focus on the Learning that Matters sees the education of children much more broadly than test results.
