Volunteering at Little Beacons

Twenty Year 8 students are volunteering at Little Beacons Learning Centre these holidays, as part of their Certificate of Excellence.

While the world of babies and toddlers is unfamiliar territory for many teenagers, students are discovering the joys of interacting with young children.  Already they have gained some valuable tips from educators.

Brooke, who is thinking of becoming a teacher, described young children as “hard work”, but had learned to hold a toy up near her face when she wanted their attention.

Ezra, who has worked with the four and five year olds and is now in the Pebble Lane room, said babies were harder: “I don’t know if they like me or not. I can’t imagine what my mum went through with me.”
