The exchange program with Lycée François Rabelais in Chinon is a five-week linguistic and cultural exchange between a small number of students. Six students are participating in this exchange program in 2018, three students are staying with Berwick families and three with Pakenham’s. Although it started as an exchange between the Beaconhills tennis academy and the first students were all tennis players, the program has developed into a reciprocal linguistic exchange open to any senior school student of French.

Lycée François Rabelais is a co-educational high school with 1103 students, 196 boarders and 96 teachers. It is situated in Chinon, in the Loire Valley, “the garden of France”, famous for its castles and wineries. The school has a lot of experience in international relations with sister schools in Italy, Great Britain and Germany and partners in China, Laos and Burkina Faso.

While in Australia, French students attend classes with their host brothers and sisters, take part in some excursions (Botanical gardens, Shrine of Remembrance, Queen Victoria market, Phillip Island with the Japanese group, etc.) and even visit Sydney, Gold Coast or Great Ocean Road thanks to the generosity of our families.

Students are accompanied by Christine Jonot, an English teacher. This is Christine’s third visit to Australia. The group will depart on the 7 August. Australian students will stay in Chinon from November 23 to December 28.
