International students at Beaconhills College brought a taste of Chinese New Year to the school last week with activities to celebrate the ‘Year of the Goat’.

Chinese students who are studying at the College helped cook dumplings for appreciative senior international students and staff members.

Students then visited the Junior School, along with the College’s Mandarin teacher Yanie Chen, to make goat masks with the Year 3s in honour of the year’s theme.

Rachel C, Year 11, said in her home country, families traditionally celebrated Chinese New Year’s eve by making dumplings and watching ‘Chunwan’ (the Spring Festival Gala) on television.

The school currently has 17 international students from across the world studying at the College, along with numerous students from China and Japan visiting in short-term Study Tour groups.
