Age Appropriate LearningA Perceptual Motor Programme is undertaken in Preparatory and Year 1. All Preparatory to Year 4 students participate in three Physical Education classes each fortnight under the guidance of specialised Physical Education teachers. Students in Years 3 and 4 have an additional 90 minutes of organised class sport each fortnight. Middle School students participate in five periods of Health and Physical Education per fortnight. This involves a double lesson of Physical Education each week and a single Health lesson every second week. Years 5 to 8 have 90 minutes of sport per fortnight. Year 9 students undertake a specialised programme covering a wide variety of physical activity centred on Personal Best and exploration of diverse recreational pursuits. Personal BestSport education is a part of Physical Education that includes the application of physical skills, an understanding of the origins and rules of various sports and an appreciation of codes of behaviour. Sport education builds on the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values gained through physical education by further educating students about teamwork and cooperation through participation in sport. Summer season sports include swimming, athletics, cricket, Kanga cricket, tennis, tee ball, basketball and softball. Winter season sports include cross-country, netball, hockey, soccer, football, volley stars and minkey hockey Years 3 to 12 students participate in Inter-House carnivals, which include swimming, athletics and cross country. CommunityYears 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to represent the College in the Edwin Flack or Narre Warren Primary Schools Sports’ Association. Successful students at the district level can progress to zone and state levels. Years 7 to 12 students can represent the College in the Gippsland Independent Schools (GIS) and Southern Independent Schools (SIS) competitions in 3 divisions; Junior Years (7/8), Intermediate Years (9/10) and Senior Years (11/12). Students are selected for Inter-School competition on the basis of their Inter -House performances, special try-outs, sportsmanship, attitude and skill level. Through co-curricular clubs students from Year 3 upwards can represent the College and participate in local netball and basketball competitions. The Kayak Club offers Years 7 to 12 students the opportunity to participate in a variety of events culminating each year in the Red Cross Murray River Marathon. Sailing and Equestrian Clubs also offer additional sporting experiences for students throughout the College. |
