Parents Learn to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle at Beaconhills

May, 2009

Beaconhills is a sustainably aware school and is very serious about making a difference to the environment, educating both students and parents on how they can reduce, reuse and recycle on a daily basis.

As a means of helping parents to better understand how to recycle and to use more practical ideas at home and in their daily lives, a special educational tour was organised for parents and friends of the College. After a short introductory session conducted by two members of staff – Mrs Rundle and Mrs Barton – participants visited the Thiess Services Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Hallam.

As part of the MRF tour, parents witnessed the emptying of the recycling trucks and the sorting, what can be made in other usable items and what families can do to help minimise their impact on the environment.

In all that Beaconhills College does it is trying to help the members of the School Community – students, parents and staff to better understand what they can do to help care for Planet Earth.

“Beaconhills is committed to helping care for the environment and believes it is important for both individuals and groups to take responsibility for it”, said Mrs Judy Barton, Head of Junior School. “This excursion, building on the parent partnership within the school, was just one of the many ways the College is helping the community better understand their role in the caring for our planet.
