Beauty and the BeastBeauty and the Beast Musical

August 2009

A talking clock, French candelabra and an opera singing wardrobe were all part of this year’s spectacular Beauty and the Beast musical production by Senior School students at the Beaconhills College, Valley Campus.

This classic Disney fairytale about the true nature of beauty was the perfect vehicle for showcasing the exceptional acting, singing and dancing talent of the students.

Caitlin G, Belle, and Aidan K, the Beast, led an all-star cast through all of the classic Disney songs from the soundtrack of the film plus a number of new tracks written specifically for the Broadway musical version. Every role was brought to life by the talented students. Some of the stand-out performances included school captain, Kyel S as Lumiere, the lovable candlestick; Tim O as Cogsworth, the regimental clock; Dylan R's Neanderthal, Gaston and Alex K as his zany side-kick Le Fou.

The costumes and sets were spectacular but when it comes down to it, the reason to see the show was the touching love story where they all lived happily ever after. And don't we all need a little happily ever after?

“I think we not only preserved the spirit of the story but we balanced the spectacle with some outstanding performances and allowed the talent of the actors, musicians and crew to shine through”, commented Stewart Sanderson-Young, Director. “We have some real stars in the cast and I have been priviledged to collaborate with them on this production”.
