Career Highlights

  • In 1988 Georgia made the decision in Year 12 to become a lawyer, and went on to achieve A+ in her HSC Legal Studies exam.
  • She entered an Arts degree at Monash University, and transferred to Law in her second year with a distinction average. She graduated with an Arts/Law degree, including a double major in English Literature.
  • She completed her Honours degree in Law in 1993 – her thesis was on the landmark 1993 Mabo decision.
  • Georgia started work in 1994 as a lawyer at Philip Fox, having sought the position because of her deep interest in social justice issues and the company’s involvement in native title cases. She assisted the Bangerang aboriginal community in the Goulburn Valley with the first native title claim in Victoria.
  • She moved to the Cairns office of Philip Fox in 1996.
  • Georgia worked with the Hopevale and Mualgal (Mua Island in Torres Strait) aboriginal communities assisting with their native title claims, with the Mualgal people receiving native title to their land in 1999.
  • She left Cairns in 1999 as a senior associate of Philip Fox.
  • Georgia was promoted to the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office as manager of the Native Title legal team.
  • In 2002 Georgia established her own Native Title practice, ‘Just Outcomes’, which she still operates. Her work often involves working on behalf of aboriginal communities with mining companies and sorting out land access issues etc.
