What do we mean by “Cyber Citizenship?”
At some point in our lives we will all experience using some medium of digital technology. We use computers or any personal electronic device for any number of reasons many times a day. We live in exciting times with developments and improvements in technology occurring on a daily basis. We can do today what our grandparents would never have thought possible. It is highly likely that people living in 2040 will have access to technology we cannot ever begin to imagine. Our lives are enhanced by technology.
We all have the right to use technology of our choice for whatever purpose we wish. As with so many other aspects of our lives, when we have rights we must understand and accept the personal responsibilities associated with the rights.
We all have the right to be safe when using technology and we all have the responsibility to ensure the safety of others when they use technology.
Cybersafety is a vital skill and should be a priority for all parents, educators and the whole community.
The following information suggests to parents and carers a number of strategies so that the intended outcome of use of technology can be good sound Cyber citizenship for all in a contemporary world.
