All set for iPads

Students are looking forward to the arrival of iPads

One of the important behind-the-scenes jobs in preparing for the College’s roll-out of iPads is ensuring we have a fast and safe wireless network to support the influx of devices into classrooms next year.

IT staff have been working steadily to upgrade the entire computer network, including the wireless network, in readiness for the 2012 school year.

The upgraded network will allow for a significantly higher density of wireless devices (ie iPads), improved speed and enhanced web filtering and security features.

The College has been using Cisco, world leaders in networking equipment. Cisco plans to use Beaconhills as example site for their own marketing, so we are getting the benefits of running the latest and greatest of their equipment.

I am grateful the Federal Government has seen fit to support teaching and learning in school through funding provided under the Digital Education Revolution (DER) program. This funding, which has helped us subsidise the cost of iPads, also provides for the necessary accompanying network upgrade.

I look forward to seeing students receive their new iPads on Monday 12 December.
