Schoolies Week Opportunity!

Latest News Comments Off

Combined College Kokoda TripIt was an outstanding opportunity for the small group of Beaconhills Senior School Students who joined Mentone Grammar on a ten-day trip to Papua New Guinea over the July school holidays. The College is proud to offer a second opportunity in late 2011, for students looking for an alternative to the traditional ‘schoolies week’ activities.

The tour was a life-altering experience for students who participated in a range of historical and cultural activities. They undertook a trek of the Kokoda trail, visited unmarked gravestones, went canoeing, and cycling.

“The students were able to connect with the history of our country,” said Kerri Parker, Head of Senior Students. “Each student stayed with families from the local villages which gave the students a raw, unedited insight into the country’s spirit and history, beyond the obvious cultural differences.”

Our students enjoyed travelling with the Mentone Grammar group, giving them an opportunity to partner with students from a different school offered a different perspective.

The College is planning another combined Papua New Guinea trip with Mentone Grammar over the ‘Schoolies’ period of November 19 – December 4.  There are limited places available, however, if there are any students interested in participating in the tour, please don’t hesitate to contact Kerri Parker in the Senior School for further information.
