A fantastic Middle School show
Middle Students from the Berwick Campus staged a four-day festival of dance, music and drama in the last week of the term.
At the annual concert to officially close the festival, each House presented a production based on the theme ‘Fairytales with a twist’.
Students chose famous fairytales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella and there were some stand-out performances on the day, delivered with the usual energy and enthusiasm that we have come to expect from this event.
Judges Michelle Salewski, Rachel Beight and Rebecca McPhail (former Head of Performing Arts) had a difficult task to choose a winner. They eventually decided on Leaver House, which presented a variation on the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ – in this version Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf were both pop singers heading to Grandma’s recording studio.
Congratulations to Leaver House students and their director Melissa Coad, who says the 65 Leaver House students – particularly the Year 8s -showed some outstanding teamwork and leadership to pull the production together in a short time-frame. It was a particularly good effort considering Leaver was last in the event in 2010.
This year we also saw a high standard of performances from our dance troupes and some other entertaining acts between the main competitions, such as air guitar. The day concluded with a performance by brass ensemble Shrewd Brass, comprising five exceptional players on trumpets, trombone, tuba and French horn.
This is the fifth year for this highly entertaining Middle School concert event and the standard continues to lift each year. Well done to all staff and students who worked hard to produce a very entertaining event.
