Calling all Middle School students who love literacy, creative thinking and problem solving.

As part of the new Beacon Program, Berwick Campus will enter teams in a national competition called Tournament of Minds, which focuses on creative thinking, teamwork and student self-direction.

It is the first time the campus has entered the competition and the search is now on for interested students who may meet the selection criteria.

The teams will be entered into either a ‘Language and Literacy’ or ‘Social Sciences’ stream. Lunch time training will be each Thursday from 1pm to 1.40pm to prepare for the spontaneous response component of the competition.

For the ‘extended challenge’ part of the competition, students will have six weeks from the start of Term 3 to present their solution in late August. This will mean some after school training and at least one weekend team session.

Head of the Beacon Program, Mrs Judy Barton, says participating in the Tournament of Minds is a privilege, challenge and responsibility.

“This is a chance for your child to really raise the bar and strive for academic excellence,” she says.

For details, contact Judy Barton on extension 1114 or email judy.barton@beaconhills.vic.edu.au.
