Our star cyclist Courtney Field (Year 8, Berwick Campus) has recorded an outstanding performance at the recent Scody Cycling Australia Junior Track National Championships.
Courtney will surely be a front-runner for the 2016 Olympics, after winning three gold medals and breaking two Australian Records at this national event.
In the ‘junior women’s 15’ 200m sprint qualifying, Courtney become the first female competitor in the category to break the 13 second barrier, with a time of 12.859 seconds. This broke her own Australian record of 13.094 set at last year’s championships in Melbourne.
She then went on to set another record, taking a gold medal in the 500m time trial final. Courtney covered the two laps in 37.589 seconds – half a second faster than her time set last year. She also won the sprints and the 20 lap scratch race.
For her extraordinary efforts, Courtney was awarded the Australian Champion of Champions award, meaning she was the best overall rider of all competitors in every age group in Australia.
She now has her eye on road cycling, with plans to compete soon in the Australian Mountain Climbing Championship at Mt Buffalo.
We are very proud of Courtney’s amazing achievement and there is no doubt she has a very bright cycling future.
