Brothers chase Australian title
(L-r) Nicholas and Daniel S.
Two brothers from the Pakenham Campus are among five College athletes who have qualified to compete in the Australian Junior Championships to be held in Homebush, Sydney from March 10 to 14.
Daniel S, Year 9, and his brother Nicholas, Year 8, will compete in the challenging 2000m steeple chase event.
The duo is training hard in preparation for the event, which calls for a combination of athletic skills including long distance running and hurdling.
Daniel said the steeplechase was more gruelling than cross-country running: “There is a lot more pressure on the body. It’s a lot harder keeping at speed over the hurdles.”
Daniel qualified to compete in the Australian event with his silver medal at the All Schools Championships held late last year at Olympic Park, with a time of six minutes 50 seconds. Nicholas also qualified earlier this athletics season with seven minutes seven seconds. The boys train at the Knox Athletics Club.
They will be joined in Sydney by Mikaela D (Year 8), Matt D (Year 9) and Simon P (Year 11). Congratulations to all students for their efforts in qualifying.
