Gold medal winners: the 7/8 Girls' team

Beaconhills College basketballers have collected gold and bronze medals at the Australian School Championships in Bendigo.

This is a remarkable result and the most successful in the College’s10 year history of competing in this event.

We had three teams competing in the Junior section which is open to students in Year 10 and below.

Our Year 7/8 Girls’ team won all games against strong opposition, bringing home a gold medal. This is an amazing achievement for these young players, who have worked hard since Term 1 when they competed in the GIS Competition.

Congratulations also to our Junior boys’ team which won a bronze medal for third place. This team won the GIS Competition and competed strongly in the Victorian College Championships, but realised that the team needed more height and experience to compete in the Australian School Championships.

After adding Year 9 and 10 students to the final squad, the leadership and strength of the older students helped this team achieve its commendable third place.

The Year 9/10 girls also scored a bronze medal after a strong performance in the final game. This topped off a week of mixed results, so well done girls for your efforts.

All three teams have shown great improvement and I congratulate all players on their outstanding achievements.
