A Year 12 Pakenham Campus student is bound for Japan after becoming one of 180 students across Australia to earn a scholarship under a Japanese Government scholarship program.

Kara B will travel to Japan in December for two weeks under the JENYSYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth Scholarships) program.

An excited Kara said she couldn’t wait to start the program: “I have always wanted to go to Japan. I find the culture and language so interesting and I thought the scholarship would be a great opportunity.”

During her visit, she will travel to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima, attend a Japanese school and stay with a host family for six days.

Kara has studied Japanese at Beaconhills for 13 years – since Preparatory Year – and hopes her studies will stand her in good stead for her visit to Japan.

The JENSYS program brings together students from across the Asia Pacific region and was formed in response to the Australian and Japanese governments’ desire to promote Japanese language among Australia secondary school students.

Omedetoo gozaimasu (congratulations) Kara!
