A Rainbow Connection
The beautiful peace mural.
Students from the Junior School, Berwick Campus, have created a striking ‘Creating Peace’ rainbow mural made from individual clay handprints.
Headmaster Tony Sheumack helped celebrate the completion of the colourful mural at a special Junior School assembly on 29th October.
Students decorated each handprint with their own design and name, and the mural is now a lasting work of art on the Junior School building.
Head of Junior School, Judy Barton, said work on the mural began when students celebrated Harmony Day, held earlier this year, as part of the College’s ‘Creating Peace’ theme.
Students had discussed Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s book ‘God’s Dream’, which describes a rainbow made from children’s hands.
The message was that we are all part of one world and each small part is a total of the whole.
“The concept of ‘working together, we achieve more’ was at the centre of many activities undertaken that day,” Mrs Barton said. “This amazing mural will form a lasting memory of the 2010 College theme.”

My congratulations to the Junior School – what a beautiful way to consolidate and capture the Theme of 2010. I sincerely hope that each student feels a sense of pride in their own special achievement.
