Eminent neurosurgeon Major General Jeffrey Rosenfeld was guest speaker at the College’s annual Cadet dinner on Friday, 8th October.

MAJGEN Rosenfeld is the Surgeon General Defence Health Reserves and is Professor and Head of Surgery at Monash University and Director of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Alfred Hospital and Monash University.

The evening marked the Cadet Unit’s 17th anniversary and celebrated the end of the training year, Cadets’ achievements and was also a chance to farewell Year 12 students leaving the Unit.

MAJGEN Rosenfeld spoke of the importance of volunteering, education and the role of schools in contributing to the community.

He also highlighted the value of a career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and gave examples of how the ADF’s work helps communities in other countries through peace-keeping.

In particular, he spoke of the work being done to help countries struggling to develop or re-establish management and control.

Officer Commanding, Beaconhills College Army Cadet Unit, LT Alistair Dunn, said MAJGEN Rosenfeld’s message was “thought-provoking” and it encouraged Cadets to think of their responsibility to those less fortunate.

“The evening was very enjoyable and an appropriate celebration of a very successful year for the Cadet Unit”, LT Dunn said.

Contributing to community is a core value of Beaconhills; Cadets is only one of the ways that students can be involved in service to others.
