Show Prize for Year 9 Artist
Ella B (Year 9, Pakenham Campus) has earned First Prize at the Royal Melbourne Show for her drawing of an ‘Old Indian Man’ (pictured).
She drew the portrait from a photograph she found in a box at the Narre Warren art studio where she has weekly lessons.
Drawing, along with playing the violin, has been Ella’s life-long passion and her talent is reflected in the detail of her work – praised by the Show judges.
Royal Melbourne Show judge Victor Magzner described the portrait as a “well constructed, strong, expressionistic portrait with great impact”.
“Well placed in format – well modelled facial features, yet also stylised….good contrast between light and dark,” he said.
It took Ella about 30 hours to complete the work.
