Olympic Rider Visits School
Equestrian students experienced Olympic standard tuition when Olympic rider Laurie Lever ran a clinic for 17 preparatory to year 12 students on 19th July.
Equestrian co-ordinator at the Pakenham Campus, Rachelle Wilson, says it was a unique opportunity for the riders to gain some valuable instruction from an expert well above the usual pony club level.
“The students were really thrilled to have the opportunity to have someone of his calibre helping them,” Ms Wilson says.
Mr Lever helped students with riding on the flat, jumping technique and also gave individual attention to riders struggling with particular riding problems.
Two members of the Equestrian team have already had outstanding results this year at the EV (Equestrian Victoria) Interschool Championships which ran from 5th to 8th July.
Nicola H (Year 10 Village) won show-jumping, clearing the highest level of 1.2m and Annie R (Year 12 Valley) won not only her dressage division but was overall dressage winner.
The duo will now go on to represent Victoria at the Australian Interschool Championships help in Sydney at the end of the term.
