Blood Bank Visit
The Red Cross Blood Bank visit to the Village Campus on Tuesday 16th March proved to be our most successful to date. Despite the rushed preparations and a number of potential donors unable to attend because of sickness, we filled 55 of the 57 appointment times and 51 of the 56 students and staff successfully filled the 470mm bag with blood! This is the first time we have achieved the 50 bag target. Special thanks are due to the 10 students who volunteered on the day to replace our sickies. Of the 51 successful donors, 27 were new donors –this is another record.
The team of blood bank ambassadors did a great job caring for our donors, running the kitchen and chasing up new donors.
The fastest donor times on the day were: Madelyn M (5.04mins), – a new Campus record and Emmanuel M (5.11mins)
One of the highlights of the day was when one of the female donors, on the bed with needle inserted, asked when the blood would start to flow into the bag – at which point it was already half full and had been flowing for four minutes. Clearly the experience was painless for her. Thank you again to all our blood donors and blood bank ambassadors.
