College Aims
Introduction
Beaconhills College is an ecumenical Christian community school with a policy of open entry and a low fee structure. The College aims for excellence in the development of each student’s potential, in an environment of care and concern inspired by the example of Christ and his disciples.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the College is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, physical and social development of its students through their participation in programmes of study and other activities appropriate to their diverse needs, abilities and aspirations. The aims of the College are outlined below.
Religious and Spiritual
- To provide an ecumenical learning environment in which the College can support parents and churches in the growth and nurture of students in the Christian faith.
- Enable students to experience the freedom to share and express the Christian faith.
- Develop in students a spiritual awareness so that they can see their role in the community as being in the service of God.
Personal Relations and Pastoral Care
- Foster appropriate relationships between teachers and students, with the teacher as a role model, to encourage both teachers and students to initiate positive interactions.
- Encourage honesty within the school community.
- Develop mutual trust, respect and discipline.
- Ensure each student is individually known and valued.
Academic and Attitudinal
- Provide the students, given their different abilities and backgrounds, with the opportunity to undertake studies in a broad range of disciplines.
- Promote intellectual challenge, a broadening of horizons, a love of learning and a spirit of inquiry.
- Enable all students to pursue their aspirations beyond the school as effective citizens.
Personal Well-Being and Co-Curricular Activities
- Promote personal health and fitness through participation in sports and recreational activities.
- Encourage the effective use of leisure both within and outside the College.
The Wider School Community
- Form a community in which all the participating bodies - the churches, the Board, the staff, the students, the parents and friends - are involved together in creating a harmonious and stimulating atmosphere.
- Develop in students a feeling of self-worth, a sincere respect for others, and a sense of personal responsibility.
- Encourage a commitment to the College and to the wider community.
